7 fun Easter activities to enjoy with your children or grandchildren

Are you looking for ways to keep children entertained over the Easter school holiday? Look no further, as here you can find seven excellent projects and activities designed to create memories and have fun with your children or grandchildren this spring.

1. Bake some Easter-themed treats together

After 40 days of Lent, Easter is often associated with indulging and enjoying a sweet treat. So, why not whip up some cakes or other treats in the kitchen with your children and grandchildren?

For young children, Shredded Wheat nests are an excellent choice. They’re simple enough for everyone to get involved and they don’t require any baking. With just three ingredients, the items are easy to add to your shopping list. If your children or grandchildren are older, you could try baking a carrot cake or a chocolate dessert covered in Easter eggs.

2. Plan a traditional Easter egg hunt

A traditional egg hunt has become a staple part of the Easter weekend for many families.

There may be events at local parks or venues offering a fun-filled Easter egg hunt, but it’s an activity that’s simple to do at home.

For a basic egg hunt, all you need to do is hide some chocolate eggs or other Easter gifts around your home or garden. You may want to buy or make a basket for each child to store what they find.

There are lots of ways you can make an Easter egg hunt more interesting and engaging too. Encouraging children to solve Easter-themed problems or riddles that will lead to the hiding places of the eggs can provide an afternoon of entertainment.

3. Create and play bunny bowling

Combine a craft project with a game with this Easter-themed bowling activity.

You’ll need to find some small, plain bowling pins in a craft store or online to get started. The first task is to decorate your pins to give them an Easter twist. You could use a range of craft supplies, from marker pens and paint to glitter and tissue paper. The example uses the shape of the pins to create cute bunnies, but you could get creative to make chicks or vibrant patterns.

Once the pins have dried, it’s time to bowl. You can have great fun knocking down the pins and setting up a friendly competition.

4. Make an Easter wreath

While you may not traditionally decorate your home for Easter weekend, craft projects can help keep children entertained and mean they can proudly display their artwork. This Easter wreath project is simple enough for children of all ages, and you can make more challenging designs with older children.

For a basic Easter wreath, all you need is some colourful paper and pens. However, it’s a great opportunity to dig out different art supplies and get creative too.

5. Decorate eggs

Painting eggs is a traditional Easter craft. Many schools still ask children to bring in their masterpieces to show off or to roll down a hill to see which egg can go furthest without breaking.

To start, you’ll need to hard boil some eggs that’ll act as your canvas. Once they’ve cooled, get out any paint and art supplies you have and let your, and your children’s, imagination turn them into works of art.

If you need some inspiration for your decorated eggs there are hundreds of ideas available online, from traditional designs to those that use witty puns.

6. Use your egg box to create mini bunnies

Don’t throw away your egg boxes from the above activity – this video shows how you can turn them into cute Easter bunnies.

This simple art project is suitable for young children to follow and could provide ideas for other ways you can turn empty egg boxes into something new. Once you’ve finished and the paint has dried, you can fill them up with sweets and mini eggs to display or use as part of your Easter egg hunt.

7. Plan an Easter movie night

A cosy evening watching films can be the perfect way to enjoy time as a family. While you can put on any family favourite film, some options have an Easter twist.

Coming-of-age story Hop follows the Easter bunny’s son who would rather drum in a band than follow in his father’s footsteps.

Other great options include Peter Rabbit, Winnie the Pooh: Springtime with Roo, and Rise of the Guardians. Or, for a slightly less traditional Easter film, Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit is an action-packed adventure as the titular characters search for a mysterious creature.

    What our clients say

The majority of my time has been spent running a business and concentrating on making the correct day-to-day decisions; it was essential for me to gain advice and guidance. Phill and his team at RPG have been able to guide me and provide a balanced portfolio. Without turning to RPG, I would have been unable to arrange my long-term financial future. They have a vast amount of knowledge and have produced the results essential for when I decide to retire.

    John S, Shropshire

    Director

Because our business was growing every year, we didn't really look at how the money we were making was put to best use. We needed some expert advice to lead us in the right direction. Anthony O'Connor has always been very helpful and approachable whilst dealing with our affairs. We are left to do what we do best: run a business. We would highly recommend anybody who is seeking financial advice to look at the services Anthony and his team can provide.”

    John and Carole, Cheshire

    Business owners

We decided to use Phill Owen to help us with our financial planning as our savings, mortgage and life policies did not seem coordinated. Phill provided a clear plan for the future. He helped us organise our wills, inheritance matters and our future retirement. With our face-to-face catchups and regular emails or phone calls, Phill has always given us sound advice. This, in turn, has given us the peace of mind that our financial matters, now and in the future, are in good hands and in good order.

    Nick and Christine, Shropshire

Retired Dairy Consultant and Retired NHS Therapist

I started using RPG on the advice of my bank when I started my own limited company. They have guided me through potential pitfalls in such a friendly manner that, even though our relationship has always been professional, I still consider them as friends. This journey has gone through setting up my company, tax, VAT, insurance advice, setting up wills, buying a different house and ensuring my wife and sons are provided for, both now and in the future. It has been such an easy journey. I would have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone.

    John M, Manchester

    Aircraft Engineer

My wife and I have been clients of Phill's for 25 years; 20 of which were with RPG Chartered Financial Planners. 17 years were prior to retirement and nine years have been post-retirement. Their involvement has been crucial to dissipate our financial and estate management concerns. RPG’s staff have been exemplary; always approachable and quick to respond. We have no reason to believe that this tremendous working relationship will not be as successful in the future as it has been in the past. We have no hesitation in recommending them.

    Paul and Pat S

Retired Veterinary Surgeon and Retired College Lecturer

I am a Chartered Structural Engineer and have very little knowledge, experience or understanding of financial affairs and investments. Approximately six years ago I started to think about early retirement. For the past six years RPG have provided excellent financial planning and tax-efficient advice in the form of a combination of pension and cash ISA investments, which have grown significantly to such an extent that early retirement is imminent.

    Pete, Manchester

    Chartered Engineer

Early in 2000, we decided we needed financial advice. We contacted Phillip Owen, who created a financial planning strategy that addressed all our needs. We were impressed with his advice, and so a partnership began that has lasted. Original goals are still being met and often exceeded, and investments are successful. There is long-term financial planning in place, even for the youngest family members. I highly recommend Phill and his team.

    Mike, Westminster

Retired Teacher and Volunteer Sector Adviser

We were in need of an adviser who could provide a wide spectrum of advice for managing our portfolio. We met Anthony on several occasions to understand his breadth of experience, and we were very impressed. Anthony's team took the reins in consolidating and rationalising our portfolio. We are very pleased with Anthony's service and we look forward to a long-lasting relationship with him.

    Atul and Nita, London

Anthony O’Connor has advised me over several years about pensions and general financial planning.  I have found him knowledgeable, supportive and a person who provides good solutions .
